Your Condition

What kind of back pain are you dealing with?

Select your condition below. Each has its own causes, contributing factors, and treatment approach — which is why our doctors assess every guest individually before designing their programme.

Lower Back Pain

The most common — and most misunderstood — condition we treat.

Common SymptomsDull ache or sharp pain in the lumbar area; worse when sitting or standing for long; stiff in the mornings.

Lumbar Spondylosis

Degeneration of the lumbar spine — often undertreated in early stages.

Common SymptomsLower back pain that gets worse with age; stiffness; occasional leg pain.

Disc Bulge / Herniation

When a disc presses on a nerve — causing pain, weakness, or numbness.

Common SymptomsPain that radiates from back into one or both legs; numbness or tingling; worse when bending.

Sciatica

Nerve pain radiating from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg.

Common SymptomsSharp shooting pain in one leg; numbness; can be debilitating.

Post-Surgery Back Pain

For those who had spine surgery but still experience persistent pain.

Common SymptomsResidual pain after microdiscectomy, laminectomy, or spinal fusion.

Sacroiliac & Hip-Related Back Pain

Often misdiagnosed as lower back pain — the source is the sacroiliac joint.

Common SymptomsPain in the lower back that feels different from a disc problem; worse when lying on one side.

Why Non-Surgical

Most chronic back pain can be resolved without surgery. Here's why.

Surgery addresses structural issues — but most chronic back pain is not purely structural.

Inflammation, muscle imbalances, nerve irritation, and lifestyle factors all contribute to pain — and none of them are fixed by surgery alone.

This is why many patients continue to have pain after a technically successful surgery.

Our approach: identify every contributing factor, treat them together, and build a recovery that holds.

Conventional approach

One scan → one diagnosis → one protocol

Tigris Valley approach

Full assessment → multiple contributing factors identified → integrated treatment addressing all of them

Treatment Approach

A programme built around your back pain — not a generic protocol.

Step 1 · Day 1

Doctor Evaluation

Your MRI, X-ray, or CT scan is reviewed in clinical context. Our doctor conducts a physical examination and health history review, plus a neurological and musculoskeletal assessment. Your programme is designed the same day.

Step 2 · Day 1–2

Personalised Treatment Plan

Based on your assessment: which therapies, what sequence, what frequency. An Ayurvedic constitution (Prakriti) assessment is also conducted to inform therapy selection.

Step 3 · Throughout your stay

Daily Supervised Therapies

Every therapy session is supervised and tracked. Progress is documented daily. Our physiotherapist and Ayurvedic practitioners work in coordination — not in silos.

Step 4 · Every 3 days · Departure

Progress Review & Discharge Plan

Every 3 days, your doctor reviews progress and adjusts the plan. On departure, you receive a written home programme — stretches, dietary adjustments, lifestyle changes, and a follow-up date.

Recovery Stories

What our patients say

Six years of lumbar spondylosis. I had stopped going to the mosque because I could not sit through the prayer. The doctor at Tigris reviewed my MRI on day one and told me honestly what could and could not change. After ten days of Kati Basti, Pizhichil, and supervised physiotherapy I was back to a full namaz without leaning on the wall. It is three months now and the home programme is still working.

Mohammed Riyas

Lumbar Spondylosis · Age 52, Kozhikode
An L4–L5 disc bulge with sciatica down the right leg. Two surgeons in Kochi told me to schedule a microdiscectomy within the month. I came to Tigris as a last attempt. They did not promise to avoid surgery — they promised to try everything else first. After fourteen nights I could walk a kilometre without the leg pain. The surgery has been postponed indefinitely. I now know exactly what to do, and what to avoid, every day.

Anish George

Disc Bulge · Sciatica · Age 41, Ernakulam
Lower back pain for over five years. I had tried physiotherapy at three places and two rounds of epidural injections — temporary relief, then back to square one. What was different at Tigris was the time the doctor spent finding contributing factors I never connected to my back: my posture, my weight, even what I was eating. Twelve days of treatment and a clear plan to follow. For the first time in years I am sleeping without waking up to pain.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — please bring any existing scans and medical reports. Our doctor will review them on Day 1 as part of your assessment. If you don't have recent imaging, we can advise on whether new scans are needed.

For recent or mild back pain: 5–7 nights is effective. For chronic back pain (1+ years) or disc conditions: we recommend 10–14 nights for meaningful and lasting results. Our doctor will give a specific recommendation based on your condition.

Yes — our treatments are designed to be safe for disc conditions. We avoid any high-impact or compression therapies. Kati Basti, Pizhichil, and gentle physiotherapy are specifically effective for disc issues. Our doctor will review your scan before starting any therapy.

Yes. Post-surgical rehabilitation is a programme we specifically offer. We focus on scar tissue management, nerve recovery, and building strength to prevent recurrence. Please bring your surgical records and discharge summary.

Our goal is sustained recovery — not temporary relief. We address the root causes: inflammation, muscle imbalance, posture, and lifestyle factors. The take-home programme is designed to sustain and build on your in-retreat progress. Most guests report continued improvement for weeks after they leave.

Yes. We time your final therapies to ensure you travel in comfort. We also recommend an aisle seat on flights and provide guidance on travelling post-treatment. For guests with severe sciatica, we advise a minimum 7-night stay before long travel.

Yes — this is one of our most common patient profiles. We ask that you share the surgical recommendation with our doctor so we can understand what is being proposed and design a programme accordingly. We do not claim surgery is never needed — but we believe non-surgical options should be thoroughly explored first.
